Lt-Col. Larry Gbevlo-Lartey (retd), the National Security Coordinator, has declined to serve on the Political Committee of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
A source in the NDC, in an interview with the Daily Dispatch, stated, "In a letter dated March 3, 2010, to Mr. Asiedu Nketiah, the Lt-Col. indicated that due to personal reasons which would be communicated to him later, he (Gbevlo) would be unable to serve on the Committee."
The source indicated that the Coordinator's letter was in response to a letter from Mr. Asiedu Nketiah, who is the General Secretary of the NDC, asking for Lt-Col. Gbevlo-Lartey's acceptance or otherwise of an offer by the NDC's National Executive Committee to serve on its Political Committee.
Readers will recall that although all heads of national security in past governments had always worked to keep their governments in power, the announcement offering him membership of the Committee raised some concerns.
Asked for his comment, a security analyst told the Daily Dispatch, "That is a good move. It should end the matter".
