Asantehene spokesperson denies expenditure on $5m mansion in UK

One of the spokespersons for the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has denied reports that the King has bought a plush 5-million-dollar mansion in the United Kingdom.

The Akyempenhene, Oheneba Adusei Poku said he will be surprised if the Asantehene has indeed acquired such a property because that will be a sharp departure from what he stands for.

A report published in a UK newspaper, “The Sunday Times”, alleges that the Asante King bought the house in that country’s wealthy neighbourhood of Henley-On-Thames.

But Oheneba Adusei Poku who describes himself as the first son of the Asantehene told Joys News Otumfuo will not do that kind of expenditure when he needs money to support his charity projects and spends most of his time here in Ghana.

The Akyempenhene admitted that he is yet to speak to the Asantehene but maintained such expenditure will be in sharp contrast to what the the Otumfuor stands for.

He said Manhyia Palace’s priority is to raise funds to help the needy.

Meanwhile, Manhyia is expected to issue an official response to the publication later today.
