Sixty-three percent of Ghanaians say the
economic conditions prevailing in the country are very bad, according to
the latest findings of the Afro Barometer survey.
The survey, conducted by the Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) covered issues including opinions on democracy, ratings of government services, performance ratings of government officials and local government
accountability.
Joy News’ Elton John Brobbey who was at the presentation of the survey results reported that about 2,400 people were interviews between May 9 and June 3 this year.
However, 75 per cent surveyed expect the economy to improve in the coming year. With 30 per cent describing the current economy conditions in the country as very good.
The results also showed 82 percent of Ghanaians support Ghana’s system of governance – democracy. But 62 per cent think democracy is working in Ghana.
Also 92 per cent say they enjoy freedom of expression in the country, but 63 per cent say they are careful about what they say about politics.
According to those interviewed 72 per cent expressed trust in the Ghana Armed Forces. 59 per cent of those interviewed have absolute confidence in the presidency, while 56 per cent have trust in the Electoral Commission’s ability to organise a clean election.
Interestingly, 88 per cent of Ghanaians believe one has to be very careful when dealing with other people.
On personal security, 84 per cent feel unsafe in their neighborhood, although 94% of Ghanaians say they have not been physically attacked in the past 12 months.
When it comes to the media, 88 per cent say they source their news from radio, while 68 per cent say they get their news from television.
