Pupils of Akropong Roman Catholic Primary School in the Atwima Nwabiagya District of the Ashanti Region boycotted lunch on Wednesday when they discovered weevils in their meals.
They have accused the caterer of serving them with unwholesome meals provided under government’s Free School Feeding Programme.
The pupils and teachers of the school are demanding the dismissal of the school’s caterer.
Headteacher of the school, Patricia Kyeremanteng told Joy News the weevils were first detected on Tuesday when the caterer served the children with rice and beans, and the trend continued on Wednesday.
“The children say they won’t eat...the caterer herself has admitted that the beans is not good for the children but, all the same, she has brought it,” she said.
Madam Kyeremanteng said she would not allow the children to consume the food as she feared for their safety.
The incident follows claims by the Member of Parliament for the Asokwa constituency, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, alleging that children in the Ashanti Region were being fed with maggot-infested meals under the National School Feeding Programme.
