The Brong Ahafo Regional Crime Officer of the Ghana Police Service has been transferred to the Northern Regional town of Yendi.
But Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kwesi Ofori says the transfer was normal and should not be linked to the feud between Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV, Paramount Chief of the Techiman Traditional Area, and Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, over the chief of Tuobodom Nana Baffour Asare II on his allegiance.
He said other police officers were also affected by the exercise, explaining: “The exigency of the service and the interest of the job, determine that.”
He noted, for instance, the Wenchi Crime Officer has been transferred to the Mampong division.
All the transfers, DSP Ofori maintained, were done at the Police Headquarters in Accra, and are purely “administrative routine”. He therefore appealed to the media to respect the decision of the administration.
He also commended the Brong Ahafo Regional command for their timely intervention which contained the confusion from escalating, but conceded that as a human institution “you have your ups and down”.
He discounted reports on Thursday that the regional Police Commander, DCOP Seth Oteng, had been re-called to the Police Headquarters in Accra.
“Let me use this opportunity to say that Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr Seth Oteng, remains the Brong Ahafo Regional Commander, so as DCOP Mr Mensah also remains as the Deputy Regional Commander.”
