Mills directs police to discontinue ‘chimpanzee’ prosecution

President John Mills has directed the police to discontinue criminal prosecutions against an NPP sympathizer who likened him (president Mills) to a chimpanzee.
This was disclosed by the Ashanti Regional Police Commander Patrick Timbilla at a press briefing on Wednesday.
According to him, the president is disinterested in the matter and would not want to be distracted from his pursuit of his better Ghana agenda.
He has subsequently directed the police to drop all charges against the NPP sympathizer, Adu Gyamfi, popularly known as the high priest, Elton John Brobbey of Luv FM reports.

Adu Gyamfi at a radio discussion on Foxx FM, Kumasi, on Monday is reported to have said that President Mills’ poster during the 2008 elections looked like a chimpanzee.
The comments, he said is in reaction to another comment by an NDC sympathizer who likened the campaign poster of Nana Akufo-Addo, 2008 flag bearer of the NPP to that of a corpse.
He was arrested and granted bail with charges of making offensive comment, pending possible prosecution.
Elton John Brobbey who was present at the briefing said the police have agreed to discontinue the matter.
Mr. Timbilla however explained that the police swooped in on Adu Gyamfi on Monday at the station to protect him from angry mob who were ready to lynch him.

It was after the police listened to the content of the recording that they decided to arrest him.
Meanwhile, Adu Gyamfi has deferred making an apology to President Mills.
He told Joy FM’s Sammy Darko he needs time to reconsider the possibility of issuing an apology.
He said his comments were in reaction to another comment by an NDC sympathizer on the show who likened Nana Akufo-Addo’s poster to that of a corpse.
He reports of threats on his life by people he said are supporters of the NDC and pleaded to the police to come to his aid.
